about mccay southern electrical

A veteran owned business serving East Tennessee

Our Story

McCay Southern Electrical, LLC began in 2010 with one employee, my husband, Rob McCay, driving around in a little 1986 Nissan pickup truck that was given to him by his grandfather.  His desire was to provide excellent electrical service to his community while providing for his family.  At that time, we had a four-year-old, 2-year-old and 1 year old.

Word quickly spread and our customer base grew steadily year after year.  Construction trades can sometimes get a bad reputation for not communicating well with their customers, but we would love to hear the stories of shock and happiness from our customers when we showed up at their door exactly when we told them we would be there.  A very simple concept- doing what you tell someone you are going to do.  Although this is a simple quality, when repeated consistently, it does big things for a start-up company.  It builds trust with its customers, and it also builds a solid reputation within the community.  We take great pride in this.

As we have grown, we have added 8 more employees and moved our location into Riceville, Tennessee.  We bought the old Riceville Hardware Store circa 1910, in May of 2021, filled with hardware supplies – and mice!  We began a complete gut and renovation of the interior of the building and were able to finish and move into our new space in April of 2022.

We also made another huge decision for our company in 2022.  The decision was to transition from providing electrical services into being a Generac generator dealer and installer for our area.  We had begun to see what a need and opportunity this was, and we decided to go for it.  Even though we have made this big transition, our mission is still the very same it always has been and always will be – provide excellent service and communication to our community and surrounding areas.

We are so very grateful for each customer and employee here at McCay Southern.
